OCA, Bangalore is celebrating Vinayak Mahotsav on 9th September 2013

Orissa Cultural Association (OCA), Bangalore is celebrating Vinayak Mahotsav on 9th September 2013 (Monday) at our usual venue, Mangala Kalyan Mandap, Koramangala.

The fully rain-proofed function area in an outdoor setting will create the right the festival ambience. Like every year, the highlight will be the Cultural Extravaganza that will show case the talent of our own members. Named ‘Punyara Nadi Tire’, the program this year will feature Odissi and Odia Folk Dances, Odia and Hindi songs, Antakshari with audience participation, Modern Dances, Monoacting, Ramp Walk, Odisha Quiz, Fancy Dress ( for children below 12) and Painting Competition ( for children below 12).

In addition we will have two special attractions, never seen before in Ganesh Puja functions – Puppet Show and Fire Limbo Dance!

Prasad prepared by our Jagannath Temple cooks in authentic Odia style will be served after the Pushpanjali. And Food Stalls will serve Odia delicacies all through, from morning till evening.

There is something for everyone – kids, teenagers, the young and the elders. The program is open to all and entrance is FREE. So do bring along your friends and colleagues as well.

Since the program is organized mainly through contributions by the members of the Odia community in Bangalore, we need your generous donations. We solicit your donations of Rs.500 onwards. What after 10th Standard/ SSC

After completion of my formal education of 18 years (including masters), I realized that choosing a career path is one of the most important decisions of anyone’s life. The career path should be decided solely on the interest of the candidate or by the parents who have found the actual interest of their child. The decision should not be influenced by parent’s occupation, parent’s interest, parent’s aspiration, job opportunity, family standards, family business, student’s score in particular subject, or anything else. Parents or guardians must understand the interest of the candidate in terms of his/her future goal, role model, what he/she likes and according they should suggest their child by providing various options to reach that goal. In the same time, they should also make the candidate aware of other opportunities, pros and cons, other various factors but they should not influence to go in a particular direction where they want. Parents must empower their child to make a decision but should not enforce them to a certain stream. Both the student and the parents must think from the long term prospective rather short term or easier career path. Effectively, a student should prepare for his/her aim from 8^th standard but 10^th standard is not so late to make a better decision. If they make a wrong decision then the child will wallow in the shallow waters of mediocrity and stagnation.

Freedom fighter Jagannath Tripathy remembered

Nabarangpur: While inaugurating a meeting to commemorate the 6th death anniversary of the freedom fighter and Gandhian, and Khadi activities President awardee, Mondei shree Jagannath Tripathy, Former minister Niranjan Patniak, who is the chief guest of the occasion stressed upon the youth to eulogize and imbibe patriotism of freedoms fighters. 
Prior to one day of Martyr’s day to be observed on 24th August 2007 near the bank of Turi river of Papadahandi, in Nabarangpur district, sad demise of Jaganath Tripathy occurred in the evening of 23rd August 2007. Jagannath Tripathy born on 14th June 1922 joined the Indian national congress when he was student of class sixth. 
Being inspirited by his teacher who was also Ex-chief minister, Dr. Sadasiva Tripathy, Uncle Laxmi Chandra Dash, at the age of nineteen launched Satyagraha on 7th January 1941 at Dasarapada of Nabarangpur. He created public opinion against the British Govt and arrested for nine months and additional 3 months totaling one year imprisonment. He organised the prisoners in jail and agitated from within the jail. He was a revoluntary youth leader in Koraput jail.

Dalit Students left School for ever due to discrimination

Jajpur: In the latest caste-bound controversy in Odisha’s Jajpur district,
over a dozen of dalit students left a government-run upper primary
school for good while registering their protest against the removal of
dalit cook by the school management.

There were in total 14 Dalit students of Gahirapala project Upper
Primary school in village Gahirapala under Dasarathapur block and all
of them under parental guidance availed school leaving certificate.

The school authorities had removed a dalit cook Janaki Jena from the
school, triggering discontentment amongst the dalit students and
parents. The dalit cook was replaced by a cook from the upper caste.

The head master and other teachers of the school segregated the upper
caste and dalit students into two groups to provide mid-day meal in
two rows for which many guardians of Dalit children protested against
the caste discrimination of the teachers for which they abused many
Dalit students and their parents, alleged a local, Narahari Jena.
