Three lakh flood-affected villagers marooned in Jajpur

Jajpur: At least 3 lakh flood-affected villagers of Bari, Dasarathapur, Badachana , Korei, Dharmasala and Binjharpur blocks of Jajpur district remain desperate for aid as floods refuse to go away.

They faced Phailin on Saturday and faced flood on Monday due to incessant rain.

Large numbers of villagers are now spending nights on the river embankments as their houses are now under water.

The district administration has started relief works on Tuesday. We started free kitchens in all the affected villages. Motorized boats and country boats have been deployed to save the marooned villagers, said Anil Kumar Samal the district collector of Jajpur.

Manzoor Ali a noted social worker of Jajpur on Tuesday provided relief materials to the flood- affected villagers under Dasarathour block. Korei MLA Pritiranjan Ghadei along with five persons were rescued by the ODRAF team when their boat capsized in the river.


The crisis is most severe in Bari  and Binjharpur blocks . In Rathasahi village under Madhusudanpur Gram Pachayat in Bari block, 80 year old Janakiballava Rath refused to leave the village as no body helped his paralyzed wife Rangalata to move out from the marooned area.
