9th Toshali National Crafts Mela 2014 inaugurated

Bhubaneswar: National Toshali Crafts Mela-2014 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar in the presence of Minister H.T. & H, Smt Snehangini Chhuria, Minister Tourism & Culture Sri Ashok Ch.Panda, M.P Dr. Prasanna Patsani, Mayor Sri Anant Narayan Jena, MLA Sri Bijay Kumar Mohanty & Sri Priyadarshi Mishra.
After inaugurating ChiefMinister Naveen Patnaik said, “Our craftsmen and weavers are the saviours of our conventional cultural prosperity. Their magical hands have been creating wonders, which we need to honor, preserve and promote.” And also said Odishan handicrafts and handloom reserve a special place in our hearts. The unique intricate designs of our crafts make them exceptional, and secure a glorious place in the craft arena” Chief Minister said that our country is a storehouse of a traditional wisdom that is reflected in our art and crafts. The handicraft and handloom sectors are demonstrative of the vibrant cultural wealth of India.
The Toshali National Crafts Mela is a vision in progress to mainstream this socio-economic and cultural activity, this year the focus is on dhokra casting and tribal jewellery. A theme pavillion called ‘Magic in Metal’ has been set up, which has live demonstrations on the craft. As many as 500 artisans of 120 families earn their livelihood by creating various dhokra craft items. The price of dhokra craft items ranges from Rs 10 to Rs 10,000 and more depending on the size and design. Besides, tribal artisans from districts like Nabarangpur, Koraput, Dhenkanal, Rayagada and kalahandi also gave live demonstartions of producing jewellery items like necklaces, bangles, earrings, finger rings, bracelets, anklets and so on.
