crime branch arrested a man for
opening a fake Facebook account in the name of a woman and for harassing and
pressurising her to marry him. A
28 years old named Rajaram Biswal, was
arrested from Bhimtangi Housing Board
ColonyBhubaneswar on the charges
of transmitting obscene materials, outraging modesty of a woman, defamation,
forgery and criminal intimidation. The
youth has also been booked under
Sections 66-A and 66-C of IT (Amendment) Act, 2008.
During investigation, it was
found that the man opened a fake Facebook account of a female acquaintance and
blackmailed her by uploading weird materials in the social network site. It came to light that the accused was
friends with the woman and wanted to marry her. But she was reluctant. The accused later tried to pressurise
the woman to marry him and harassed her and also threatened her family with dire consequences, said the
woman. As prima facie evidence
was brought out against the accused, he was arrested and was produced before a
local court. Investigation is on, police said.
