Jaundice affects 103 Police Trainees in Jajpur

Jajpur: Around 120 jawans of the Police Training Institute at Bairi under Badachana block in Jajpur district have suffered from jaundice after taking polluted water.

Fearing the spread of the water borne disease around, 50 ailing jawans have left the Institute and gone on leave.

While the joint director, Health, has visited the Institute to take stock of the situation, a team of doctors from Badachana hospital has been pressed into service for treatment of the ailing patients.

Prior to this, 260 candidates selected as drivers of the Odisha Police had also undergone training at the Institute of which around 200 tested positive.

While it was alleged that the spread of jaundice was due to the contaminated water from a bore well centre which is near a latrine, the test of water has found no trace of contamination, reports said.

In the meanwhile, the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) staff on Sunday  disinfected all tube wells in Solora, Bairi, Badachana, Radhadeipur, Darpani, Paria and Manduka where the outbreak of jaundice has been reported.
