CPI criticises state govt. over proposed legislative council
Bhubaneswar: Odisha unit of the CPI demanded that a state wide debate should be held
to elicit public opinion on the proposal of the Odisha government to establish
a Legislative council in the state.
CPI
State Secretary Dibakar Nayak said people should decide whether the state could
take the burden of the expenses of a state council at point when the state
government was reducing the plan allocation citing fall in the revenue
collection.
The
CPI leader criticised the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for working in an
autocratic way and not taking the opposition political parties into confidence
while taking decision on important issues.
Mr
Nayak said the establishment of a state council was an important issue but the
Chief Minister did not think it proper to call an all-party meeting to take a
consensus view on the issue.
Earlier
the Congress and the BJP had also rejected the five-member constituted by the
government to study the functioning of the Legislative Councils in Maharashtra
and Karnataka saying the government had not consulted them before announcing
the committee.
Mr
Nayak alleged that both the Congress and the BJP were engaged in a mock fight
with the ruling BJD for the last 15 years. He also alleged that leaders of BJD
and BJP were involved in land and chit fund scams in the state and they ensured
that the matter was not discussed in the Assembly. Besides, the Centre had
decided against CBI inquiry into the mining scam despite recommendation by the
Shah Commission due to alleged involvement of BJP leaders in it, he alleged.
Mr
Nayak said earlier Congress was not playing the role of the main opposition for
the last 14 years and now the BJP was doing the same thing.
